Congress: Investigate Death of Afghan Refugee in ICE Custody

He served with United States’ forces — and died in ICE custody within 24 hours.

An Afghan father who supported U.S. forces was detained by ICE in Texas and dead less than a day later. His family is demanding answers. They deserve them.

This is part of a larger crisis. Detainee deaths in ICE custody are at a two-decade high, with reports of delayed medical care and dangerous conditions. When someone dies in government custody, it’s a failure of accountability. And if the U.S. cannot protect someone who stood alongside our troops, what does that say about our values?

Congress must act now. Lawmakers can launch an investigation, subpoena ICE officials, and force transparency. Public pressure can turn this tragedy into reforms that prevent more deaths.
